Ouch!

I don't think it was that bad. Got mine on Friday past, worked it all weekend, and returned it Monday. The OS was a bit laggy, but it convinced me I cannot deal with touch screen typing. Same reason I didn't like the iPhone.

I was quite taken aback by Pogue's review. Example:

"How did this thing ever reach the market? Was everyone involved just too terrified to pull the emergency brake on this train?"

That, to me is not a 1 or 2 star review, but is a 0 star review.

Ill be blunt;

This review is a crock. He's under some illusion that all Blackberries must have keyboards.

He thinks the Storm sucks because you have to click the screen to select.Boo hoo.

Apparently he also hates typing on any keyboard:according to this review its a liability that RIM has suretype AND qwerty as options.

FAIL.

Negative 10,000 stars. The Blackberry Storm is smarter than this 'reviewer'.

To be honest with you, I was never excited about the storm. I got rid of my iPhone just before I got my Pearl, and havn't looked back since. I like my iPod Touch though, but then, it's only for music & pics. I seldom use it to surf, mail, or anything like that. That touch screen is just to much trouble, and is more of a gimmick than anything else.
RIM should have just stuck with what they do best and quit trying to follow the crowd.

My issue is with the reviewers expectations.

The Storm itself would be a decent unit if the software wasn't so laggy, but this reviewer didn't bother to mention the good with the bad in his estimation.

...ditto....

however, this device may appeal to some folks... probably to those who have more patience than busy execs and working stiffs . . . I'm sticking to my TMO 8820 for now . . .

Default Biased?

Pogue is as Pro-Apple as they come (he writes Apple books on the side) so I wouldn't expect anything less. What's funny is you could change Storm to iPhone and it would read as an accurate review of how many people feel about it.

Storm won't be for everyone, to me it's not a true BB but I can see the appeal for certain users and you can't fault anyone for giving what the market is asking for.

Amusing how he berates Suretype which has been around for 3 years (7100t). I never dug it but for those who use it swear by it.

From all reports the Storm OS has some issues (still waiting for our units) but I will wait and give RIM time. They usually are prompt to fix issues and it's ironic no ones complains about how the iPhone is prone to random reboots, dropped calls and needing updates to work.

I'm somewhat familiar with Pogues writing style, he's a bit strange. The article was harsh but did provide a few key points. With that said, however, he didn't present these points in a constructive manner. It was motivated by a kind of "teen-girl" angst that's seen with impatient people and their reaction when they are presented with something new. I've tried the Storm and didn't like it nor found it to fit my needs, but I didn't trash it to others that were considering it. What Pogue writes here is not journalistic, nor critical, its just moody, perhaps he had a bad day? With all that said, I understand the the storms flaws, limits and innovative strides, just like any new business tool, but to review with such obvious bias and disparaging attitude towards new technology is just ugly. Take some time and do your own investigation on the Storm, as a matter of fact, with ANYTHING! haha. Lets just hope this doesn't make things ugly for anyone who's a dedicated user.

I agree -- went in to buy a Storm, spent two hours with it, came out with a Curve.

The review is spot on...I purchased a Storm, used it for a week and returned it for Curve. I actually dreaded having to use the Storm as everything was a chore.
