Default "My Number" displaying the wrong number

One of our clients recently ported over to T-Mobile from a different carrier.
When they got the device they had T-Mobile SIM cards with temporary numbers. Now that they've ported over they still display the temporary number in My Number.
I've spoken to T-Mobile who says that the only way to chance this is to put the SIM into a Sony Ericsson device and change the display using that.
Is that really the case or is there a different way to do this?

Thanks, I will get our client to test this out, however we did find out that by wiping the device and reactivating it also did the trick.
