I'm new to BlackBerry and the Desktop Manager (just got a Storm) and I was wondering how I'm notified if an update to the operating system is available? Will it pop up on my DM when I open it, or do I have to connect my BB? Also do I get any sort of notification on my BB itself?

You can have your carrier and/or Blackberry send you and email or text msg when an update is available for your phone. You should have been offered that opinion when you purchased your phone. If not, you can still go to the BB site and sign-up for that option. I'm not sure if your carrier has the same service available. I have had good luck with BB (although limited) notifying me of updates for my curve.

I suggest just keeping up with the "Latest OS" thread for your model here on BlackberryForums.com. It's pointless IMO to just randomly upgrade. The "Latest OS" threads are full of discussions with those who have upgraded and are your best bet for finding out what was fixed and potential issues.
