I have twice found that

- purging the Blackberry of all emails
- keeping the number of emails in my Gmail account in the low 1000's

both seem to keep the mail arriving on the BB instantly. I think maybe there's a timeout issue that creeps in esp when the BIS talks to a very large GMail account, and also the BB's database screws up every once in a while.

How many emails to people have stored in their BB's?

How many 1000's of messages (not conversations) do people have in their Gmail account(s)?

I have over 6000 messages in my gmail, and I use sync to get my calendar over from gmail. I have not had any problems Getting messages within 3-5 seconds. My other pop-3 account takes about 5 minutes sometimes, but gmail works just fine.

Just moved one account from about 12500 to 4000 mails which has helped.

I don't have a message count, but my conversation count in my hosted business account is over 16,000. I have been using IMAP with Gmail for the push notifications and my BB gets mail before anything else.

I keep a very tidy inbox, probably no more than around 100 or so messages a day.

dualsub2006, do you have an automatically (default) integrated account or a manually configured IMAP set-up?

And maunally configured IMAP gives you instant email? My BIS always has the 15min delay thing when I configure an account manually for IMAP.

Yes, and it has been working like that now for 6 weeks or so.
