Default Messenger on 8830 Issue - Need Help

I have been switching back and forth between an AT&T Bold and Sprint 8830 for testing of the Bold, using Desktop Manager (4.6.0.12) to BES activate upon switching devices. I have done this successfully a few times.

Recently, when I reactivated the 8830, the BlackBerry Messenger failed to sync. Now, when I try to use Messenger on the 8830, I get an error "Uncaught exception: Wrong presence status."

I have pulled the battery, no help.

I upgraded to 4.2.2.196 on the 8830, tried deleting and reinstalling the Messenger application, tried restoring from a known good backup, nothing has worked.

Please help, I use (or used to use) Messenger frequently.

It sounds like the database backup from the Bold has extra information that the 8830 can't understand and crashes... this is a bug on RIM's side. IF you have tsupport with RIM you should call them, if not then you can call your carrier and get them to send you to RIM...

either way I think you are up that creek without a paddle.

Thanks for the guidance, that is what I thought.

I broke down and upgraded to 4.5.0.101, and the Messenger feature now works.

As technically savvy as RIM is, I would have assumed in the migration they would have addressed backward compatibility.

They do have some backwards compatibility, but I can see where they need to add new items and the old software might not know how to deal with it. I run into this issue all the time with my application...
