It is reasonable to assume you can buy them unlocked and unbranded (the only way to go in my world) in December or January.

The N-series turned up about that quickly.

There will be some N-series devices out before the SE P990, I betcha.

Anyone know if Symbian is reliable? How about add on applications? Will the calander and contacts sync with BES?

SymbianOS is very reliable. The calendar and contacts will not sync with BES wirelessly - only email. Wisespent, these should be available in Europe in Q1 next year. I doubt we'll see these in NA anytime in the next 6-8 months.

Ok, its March, and the e61 still hasn't been released. People here were speculating it would be available end of December or January... This site says they will be available in a couple weeks: http://www.mobilebee.com/PhoneDetailsID739SubMenu3.html

Does anyone know what is actually going on?

Yesterday I had the chance to test the Nokia E61 at Cebit, Hannover, Germany for a few minutes. T-Mobile had the device at their booth. The design of the device is nice, but it has an unusable keyboard. The quality of the keyboard is far away from the very good keyboards of BBs. The keys on the E61 are very loose. Beside this the device feels heavier than the 8700g and is a little bit larger than the 8700g. There is a small chance that the device is available in April/May time frame.
