Question Desktop Manager Problem - New User

Please Login to Remove!

Hey guys, I'm new to BB and have an issue with the Desktop Manager. I have looked through loads of posts but cant find same problem so looking for your help.

BB: 9000 Bold
Network : o2 - UK
Operating System: Vista Home Prem.
Desktop Manager Ver: 4.6 from supplied CD (Have also tried downloading 4.7 and 4.5 all with/without media manager)
BB Software: v4.6.0.162 (Platform 4.0.0.155)

Problem.

I have installed the DM on my laptop as I intend to sync calendar and contacts via Outlook 2007.

All appears to install fine....DM starts and I get the main front end GUI showing Application Loader, Backup & Restore, Device Switch Wizard, Media and Synchronize

When I first plug in my BB the device manager installs BlackBerry Smartphone and says successful then title in top bar changes from Disconnected to Connected but when I click on any of the Icons nothing happens. The mouse pointer changes to a hand and highlights blue but no sub menu appears.

If I double click BlackBerry device manager in my task bar it shows as USB connection and shows my correct PIN .

I have tried installing and uninstalling all 3 versions over the past 2 days with no joy. I've also took battery out for over the 390 secs to reset but still nothing.

I'm so impressed with my BB but really do need the sync facility. Any ideas????

I've even searched for a third party alternative to sync contact/calendar with Outlook/BB but no joy.

Thanks for any contribution in advance

Tim

Have you configured Intellesync? You need to go in and tell it that you are using Outlook on the PC and want to sync with the BB calendar and address book. When you right click "synchronize" you should get a box to configure DM.

Also, if you have "Wireless Sync" set to ye, it will not sync using DM.

An alternative is to use Google Sync to sync your calendar and contacts with Google Calendar and contacts. I use that to keep my calendar in sync on my BB, laptop, office desktop, home PC and wife's PC. Do not use the contact sync however. Calendar works very well, other than an occasional dupe entry.

Thanks for the quick reply.

2 problems...

Firstly....cant configure Intellisync as i wont actually let me past the front end GUI. If I try right click on sync it acts almost like a "save pic as" option (as attached).

2nd...my laptop will be based mainly in my office at work but since it is a personal laptop I am not connected to the internet....all internal PC's are intranet only :( The only way I can sync with Google Sync is by bringing laptop home each day which I don't normally do. I really need a prog that can sync my BB just like my old Ipaq (I think that was Intellisync).

do you think this could be a Java issue??? Is the prog Java ??? I have tried updating that also but still no joy

Sorry for duplicate post....pic attached

UPDATE:

I've installed on my desktop at home and no problems....the desktop shows PIN connected # in bottom left of screen and there is an options box in top right (drop down). These are not on my laptop one :(

Sync's fine so I think it's time to do a fresh install on laptop....could probably do with it anyway lol.

Could it be that your work has blocked such activities on the laptop?

What OS are you running on the laptop?

OS is Vista Home Premium (fully up to date).

This is a personal laptop that I use at work for convenience. Company has had no access to it so therefore could not have blocked activities.

I've run virus/spyware sofware too but no joy there either

Try DM 4.2 SP2/3 and see if that works. Turn off the anti virus and spy ware when you install.

Also do a "run as administrator" or disable UAC before the install.

Thanks for suggestion....UAC is always turned off on here as it was one of those Vista things I hated.

No joy with 4.2 either.....guess there was some underlying software issue with laptop so in process of a fresh vista install. Thanks for contributions and I'll hang around as loving the info and support on this forum.

UPDATE : Fresh install of vista and installation of 4.6 has worked fine and i'm now happily syncing ;)

Just make a note when you install any new software and perform a Windows Update (mainly when you install SP1). Since that have been the cause why it didn't work in the first place.
