A little introduction... -
09-11-2006, 12:12 PM
Hi All, I am a Systems Admin with a BES 4.0 and 22 various BB's to manage, as well as the people who use them : )
Found your site while researching the "Send As" issues that I need to prepare for before I install SP2 on my Exchange server...I know I held out as long as I could.
Really great info here, thanks.

Hello, I have a few questions. A business I am working with is in need of a blackberry solution. All field techs (10) have blackberries as do the dispatchers.
The functionality they need is as follows:
Dispatching field technicians to clients (giving out daily assignments).
Mapping and directions.
Communication back to dispatcher's blackberry with work status (work complete, parts needed, etc)
Scheduling, Calendaring (daily, weekly, monthly)
I am looking for some third party software that is relatively inexpensive, scalable and upgradeable. Any suggestions on a third party software that might work for my client? Cost considerations: max 5K

Sounds like the standard Blackberry + BES solution will work for you.

Hi everyone, I'm new here and have quite a few questions. I don't own a Blackberry just yet as I'm in the process of trying to decide which one is for me. I don't want to clutter up the forums with silly newbie questions, so if anyone is happy to help me out please let me know and I will contact you via PM with my questions.
Thankyou =)

Hello. Hope I'm ok to post here, I just ditched the (awful) Sidekick and finally joined the Blackberry community (I've been wanting to get one for 4 or 5 years now). Like most new users (I assume), I got the 8100 and I LOVE it. It's been 2 days, and I'm VERY addicted. It's PERFECT! Anyway, just wanted to drop a hello and introduce myself. Thanks!

New User with Old Blackberry -
01-12-2007, 01:14 PM
Just bought an old unlocked 6280 (AT&T) on ebay to play around and see if I want to upgrade. Can anyone give me an idea of the cost to operate one of these on Cingular?
I bought a large ringtones/wallpaper package from Handango (which indicated that they work with 6280) and found that cannot load any of them onto the 6280. Is there some loader app I need to get?
Lastly, I updated the onboard software to 4.0.2.xxx but it seems that unless one has 4.1, one cannot do very much with the BB.
Thanks ! Jim Darrough

Been following the Blackberry cult for a few years now, but have been using a Pocket PC for some time now (after moving from a Palm). Seen the gadget evolve from the bigger units with monochrome screens to the more compact and modern ones with colored screens. I finally decided to take the plunge and bought an 8700g last week, and just waiting for it to arrive.
Needless to say, I'm not really familiar yet with the stuff I've read in the forums as I've not used a Berry yet, but I'm sure I'll get all the wonderful help here with all the people willing to chip in with whatever info they have or know. I'm glad I found this forum!
Little about me: work in technology for a major bank, been involved with tech since I was a kid, play tech support to family and friends, and next to my wife, technology and gadgets is my love.
Thanks in advance for the info and assistance and more power to the Berry culture!

The Blackberry World?!?!?!? -
02-08-2007, 07:12 PM
I am a Verizon customer and I have decided that getting a Blackberry is essential for my business. My questions are:
1. For those Verizon customers, is there a device that you would recommend in the network?
2. Are the phones better using another carrier than Verizon?
3. Is it worth changing carriers to Cingular, T-Mobile, etc.?
Thanks for the help. Being new, I appreciate all the help.

I do have a few questions in relation to BES. My questions are can a Blackberry Handheld Device pull data from an ISERIES server. If so, I am wanting to write an application for the handheld to querie information off of the ISERIES server. Can someone point me in the right direction to understanding how they would communicate together.

I have used T-Mo and Cingular for Blackberry service. Really couldn't tell them apart featurewise. I think the best carrier for you depends on the signal strength and coverage pattern that they offer in areas that you travel most often.
I personally think that the 8xxx series of devices is best. They have the latest O/S, nice screens, etc.
I have used and typically switched away from the small form factor Blackberry (ie. Pearl, 71xx) as the typing using suretype is a bit harder if you are sending out a lot of daily email.
One issue with a carrier like Verizon is that it's CDMA meaning you cannot purchase an unlocked phone via eBay (or similar) and pop a SIM card into it and be up on the network. You have to get a Verizon specific edition.
When you're with a GSM carrier like T-Mo or Cingular, either of those carrier's phones will work so long as you have them unlocked (fairly inexpensive to do via eBay).

Just wanted to introduce myself. I have a pearl on the way. It's my first blackberry and I'm really excited about it! I also just switched from verizon(tired of their crippling features and pricey plans) to tmobile. Anyway, hi all. Been reading a bunch!

Just saying hi...
I've been a data support rep for a wireless provider and have been working with blackberries for a while now. RIM just did a contest for us and I won a pearl, so I can now join the ranks of the blackberry users.
