Default BBM vs. SMS texts...

Please Login to Remove!

Hello,

what are the advantages to using BBM as opposed to regular SMS texting? I'm still not sure what the difference is.

Thanks!

Sarah

BBMessenger only works with other BlackBerry users.

SMS texting works with anyone with a cellphone.

That is the key difference.

If you don't have unlimited SMS's, BBMessenger messages are free.

BBM/PIN messages include delivery and read receipt, regardless of carrier. With SMS those features are carrier-dependent.

BBM discussions are in IM format. SMS and PIN are just individual messages.

If you have an international Blackberry plan, you can use this to text from abroad at no extra charge. Even if you don't, it is usually cheaper than the roaming charges. If you have a friend with a Blackberry in another country, you can text for free as well.

i know on the storm you can send sound files, pictures, even movies right across the air. Also besides it being free, you can send an unlimited about of characters. SMS on all blackberry's will limit you to 160 which when sending a lot of info will hinder you. I sometimes say what i have to and have just one more word to put in and without it, it sounds stupid. Draw backs.......limited to BB users only but it's all good

... or at least they use data on the Blackberry data plan. It's not free - the cost is included in the data plan - but there is no 'per use' charge like the a la carte SMS charges.
