Default a few Blackberry Pearl 8220 (flip) questions - 03-20-2009, 05:55 PM

Hello,
I'm new to this fourm and with the blackberry itself. I have a few questions that I would love to have answered.
My Blackberry is using the 4.6.0.174 softwear, is that a good enough version, or is there an update that I really need to install?
Isn't my phone soposed to connect to wi-fi zones automatically and I can make my "talkspot" calls without having to manually logg into the hotspots? My phone will find the WI-FI zones but it won't automatically connect to the WI-FI or "Talkspot". Everything is set-up on my phone for automatic. IE: its set on WI-FI prefered, and connect to WI-FI is set on automatic.
Is the Pearl 8220 compatable with youtube? is there a mobile youtube version for this model? the people at Rogers tell me that it dosn't have youtube and if it works on my phone then I'm one of the lucky few. Youtube does work on my phone but I have to search for through google then click on the link, it won't work by typing youtube.com or m.youtube.com in the web browser anymore which is weird because it always used too.

Thanks
Nathan

Welcome!

There are versions of 4.6 that are higher than .174, but they have gotten mixed reviews on their performance, and don't add any new features. If .174 is working OK for you, I would stick with it for now. New releases are posted here:

Does Rogers require any special packages to get wifi access? Might be where this issue lies.
I did a Google search for YouTube initailly, then saved the YouTube URL in my browser bookmarks. It works great.

1st Step in Troubleshooting: Do you have a BlackBerry Data Plan?
2nd Step in Troubleshooting: Pull the Battery.

Thanks for the quick reply! I think I will stick with 4.6.0.174 for now, as it is working fine. My rogers service offers WI-FI in its opackage and my WI-FI works but I have to manually logg into the hotspot browser. I thought the phone was soposed to do this automatically when in a WI-FI zone. And for my talkspot to work I have to changer the browser settings from "rogers mall" to "hotspot browser", under settings, (although I havent tried talkspot yet so I don't know if it works for sure or not). now, the phone is set up to automatically connect to a wi-fi network, if in a wi-fi zone, I think?? The browser is set on "wi-fi prefered", and its set to "find saved" WI-FI zones automatically, which it does, It shows on the top of the main screen what wi-fi network area I am in, but I have to manually logg in, is this normal?
As for youtube, I did a Google search, bookmarked it and it works fine, before however I could type the youtube address in the address bar and it would work, now, (this just happened a couple of days ago), I get redirected to a page that says that I need to check my "friends" list in the rogers mall to see if youtube is listed, weird. But it works the other way, so, oh well, at least it does work.
Now I can't seem to get my Live messanger to work. everything works fine until I try and send a message, then I get an error message stating that there is a problem with the server, but it works fine at the same time on my friends phone and on my desktop. Any ideas? Mabey reinstall Live messanger?

Thanks again
Nathan
