Hi All,

My blackberry 8120 usually gives me about 4 days life on standby however last week it suddenly started giving me less than 24 hours. I had to recharge it daily until I did a battery pull at the weekend and now it seems ok again.

Has anybody else seen this? It looks like a software issue, but I don't know what caused it.

Maybe you have an application running in the background, hold "alt" and hit the back button for the application switcher see if anything Is running in the background.

Based on the information provided in your post - I would tend to suspect that you had something running in the background that you did not close out.

Remember to hit the menu button then scroll down to "Close" to close out your programs. Just hitting the end button will leave many programs, though no longer visible, running in the background.

When I try that now, I see a list of about 10 apps, I've closed down the third party app, but I can't remove the standard blackberry apps (email, call log, browser etc). Is this expected?

I think the culprit might have been a chess game.

Yes Ben there are 5 or 6 apps that will be in that log normally-call log email
Browser bbm msgs and the home screen.

Oddly my girlfriend's O2 8120 has the same problem. The battery can run flat overnight or lose 75% charge, even when the phone is supposed to be off. This is despite running near enough the same apps as her 8100, which was fine. She's tried the 8100 battery and it has the same problem. I don't know if this might be OS or device related?

When that happens to me, it's usually an app that is running the GPS. I.e. Blackberry Maps, Google Maps, or WeatherBug. Keeping the GPS going chews battery quickly.

Also, I have found that the Tetherberry app for the BB seems to chew battery, if left running.
