I have a similar USB car charger, that all u need is to plug in your standard USB cable to it to charge any USB device. Would this by any means damage my BB battery or device in the short/long run???

Honest answer, "PROBABLY" not, but there is a chance that it MIGHT damage it.

The official line from RIM is that you must use their own car charger, myself, I use the charger that came with my TOMTOM sat nav!

So end of the day, choice is yours, do you wan't to run the risk.

Look at the charger that came with your phone.

It should be 5V, with something like .7A (this is what the Bold uses).

As long as the device that you want to buy is 5V and between .5 and 1A, you should be fine. I bought a DC plug from monoprice for $1.02 (that is not a typo), which puts out 1A and it works just fine.
