Default Internet Access Conflict W/bb Desktop

I just changed job and have a new Dell laptop running Windows XP. When I install the Desktop software, I am not able to access the internet, application will lock up when trying to run, won't connect to blackberry, etc. Have tried version 4.2 up to 4.7. Also uninstalled ROXIO and tried version 4.6. No change. Have to uninstall software to be able to restore internet access.

Would really appreciate some help. Have been weeks now since I've been able to synch with outlook. The only other difference from my old laptop is we're running Exchange versus stand alone outlook / pst / pop3 access.

What application locks up? Desktop Manager or IE/Firefox/whatever browser you're running? Are you unable to do anything on the internet (no email, no FTP, no pinging) or just unable to browse the web? Or something else?
