hi everybody! I currently live in Ukraine and I am thinking of asking my friend in the US to buy me a Blackberry phone in the US from the AT&T and bringing it over here. I see that they have a "non commitment" plan, so this means you don't have to sign a contract with At&t but will the phone be locked for the use only in AT&T network? Will i be able to put a sim card of different operator in the phone and use it?

You can unlock it for use with another GSM Carrier. See the link in my signature. If you carrier does not offer a BB Data Plan you will have limited functionality.

I honestly do not know. I have never dealth with a "no commitment"phone. Normally, if you have an account in good standing that has been active for 90days they will provide you the unlock code for free. But Horizon Wireless can provide you the code regardless for a small fee, there is a discount for being a BBF member. You can call AT&T first and see if you can get it, if not you can talk to an unlocking service.

You might want to see if whether or not your carrier in the Ukraine has BlackBerry data support....in case you want BB functionality and not just a phone...
