Default Password to access to SD card

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

For BB Bold, is there a way to assign a password to access to the SD memory card? So that I don't have to assign passwords to every single excel and words file. Anyone know how? Or is there such an option in Bold? Thanks.

Regards.

You can assign a password to your Blackberry. It will be requested when you go into Mass Storage Mode.

This won't do exactly what you're asking, but if you set the encryption in the Media Card Options, it will encrypt these files on the card. Someone with access to your unlocked phone could view the files, but someone pulling the sd card out of the phone can not view them.

Hi,

Thanks for your guide. So do you mean that if the data are encrypted, they will only be recognised by that specific device that encrypt them? What if someone took it out (from my device) and insert it to their BB device, can they have access to my data?

Regards.

Yes, basically correct. Only viewable on that device with an exception noted below.

Go to Options > Media Card

The second setting down is "Encryption Mode". You can choose Device, Security Password, Security Password & Device. This will encrypt the files like spreadsheets and docs.

Now the exception. If you use "Security Password", you can move the card to another phone and view the files if your device password is set the same. This matters if you had to warranty exchange the phone. If you use "Device" I think you lose the files forever if the device dies.

Hi monkeypaw,

I currently upgrade my Bold's OS to ver.4.6.0.247. Everything is working fine except the sheet-to-go (premium edition) no longer capable of retrieving password protected "xls" files like before.

I thought maybe you have some experience in this matter and give some advice. Thanks again.

Regards.
