Default Novice user- Blackberry Tracking

Please Login to Remove!

My Blackberry (Verizon service) is provided to me by my company. I'm wondering if they can track my websites. My company has their own Verizon server which manages over 200 users. I'm not sure of the type server, etc. Last week I was able to go to my yahoo mail account with no problem but yesterday I started getting "this site is blocked....websense". I did find out that my company is now using websense to filter the blackberry internet sites.

My question is, why is it that I can't access my external yahoo mail account if I use my blackberry but if I connect my blackberry to my pc via VZAccess Manager it allows me to surf any site? Am I not using the same server? Can my company track those sites also although they're not filtered or are they only able to track the sites that I access directly from my handheld?

Welcome to the forums.

Yes, you company can see all activity that's being done on your device. They can block sites if they wanted/needed to. Also, what you're trying to do is called tethering, Verizon charges an additional fee for that service.

My advice to you is this; you were given a company device, use it for work related purposes only, not personal use. If you want to use it for personal use, purchase your own device and keep it off of their server.

**moved to General BlackBerry Discussion**

Your company may have your device locked down so you can't install anything on it. If you do install something, they can see that also. When it's a company owned device, they can and do control every aspect of its use and rightfully so. Trying to circumvent their policies can be grounds for termination in many companies. If you want to risk getting fired from you job, that's your call.

Semi-related question.

I have my own personal 8900, not under the control of the company IT. I use the company's open wifi at work because the cell service sucks in the building. There is a second, secured wifi that gives laptops access to the network. I don't have access to it, just can see that it is there.

Can the company track or even see any thing I am doing on my phone? web/messenger etc.

Maybe not via the phone but they can certainly track traffic while you're using their access point.
