Default BB sending to wrong e-mail address

Exchange server 2003.
Internal AD domain internaldomain.mycompany.com
SMTP E-mail: [email address]
No BES; BB e-mail client is configured online (Nextel BB) as IMAP or OWA for each of the five BB's in this organization.

Exchange, by default, sets up not only [email address] (primary SMTP address), but [email address] (secondary SMTP address).

We have no issues sending e-mail via Outlook or other mail clients, internally or externally. The BB's have no problem sending to outside addresses. However, when BB User1 sends a message to User2 on the same Exchange server, it sends using the [email address] instead of [email address].

Why? How do I fix? Do I just have to remove the [email address]? If I recall correctly, this is (or used to be) necessary in order for users to access their messages remotely on a PC via OWA, so I'm not sure I want to start removing those.
