New to the boards, everyone.

Just wanted to see what you all thought of my experience so far:

Bought a Curve 8330 on EBAY from a reputable seller. It is refurbished. As soon as I got it, I realized that the phone is not charging. I know this is a classic issue with Blackberry users.

The seller has a 7 day return policy. I messaged them but I don't expect a response just yet.

Anyway, to the REAL point of what I want to share - I called Verizon to switch my number back to my old phone since the Blackberry was useless without the ability to charge. The lady on the phone says that the phone is still covered under warranty and they can replace the phone...

Now, I know this seller is good on replacements so I don't want to roll the dice. I straight tell the lady that my "friend" bought the phone on EBay and it could be refurbished so I don't want them to waste their time sending me a new phone if they can't cover it.

She tells me that it doesn't matter and was honest in saying that it's covered regardless and they will replace it with no problems.

So onto my question: is there a chance I could send the phone back to them and they go back on their word? Speaking about Verizon here. What's the worst case scenario? The phone is on its way. Am I risking going forward with this? If they were to get my current phone and something comes up will they send it back and demand theirs back? I just don't want to miss my 7 days with this seller and then I'm left with a phone that won't charge because VZW has a change of heart...

Sorry this is long winded. For those of you that had the patience to read it, I hope someone could give me some insight/personal experiences.

Bottom line is: VZW is basically saying "We're aware this was bought on ebay, you've told us it's refurbished, we're sending you a new phone because it is still on warranty." And my ebay seller is saying "you have seven days and I'll replace the phone."

What do I do?!

IMHO, send it back to the seller.

Verizon has replaced phones I bought elsewhere. If they're willing to replace yours, I say let them. At least you know if Verizon gives you one that doesn't work, they'll keep replacing it until it does.

Ha. You're right - two VERY different answers.

I guess I'm leaning toward letting VZW take care of it. I mean, they VOLUNTEERED to do it. I didn't instigate the replacement. It was the reps idea.

I'm just worried they'll find something wrong with it.

She said as long as it doesn't have water damage it's fine. I'm pretty sure it does not. Aren't their indicators in the phone for a quick reference on my part?

First time using Ebay, first time with a smart phone...and i feel like this could be the best or worst decision I could have made. ha

If vzw is willing let them replace it.

Bring it in to a VZW store and see what they say about the warranty.

from dealiing with verizon, if they do send you a phone you also have the 30 days with it to decide if you like it or if it works. if it does great if not return it. with the new phone i think it also would be covered under service plan. but as mentioned above mostly they wont warantee it if it was water damaged they would have to use your insurance and 50 buck deductible. so id keep good communication with the seller and your intent. but thats just my opinion.

UPDATE:

I want to add that I got my ebay phone in the mail and should have checked out how well it charged from the start, but I went straight to my local VZW store and got my number switched over.

With that said, I called the store and talked to the same guy that switched my number over and told him the story.

I said, "I came in yesterday with the phone I told you I bought on EBAY. It doesn't charge and the customer service rep I called over the phone to get my number switched back to my old phone is telling me they can send me a new phone even though it was bought on EBAY."

He tells me, "You're taken care of then. You have nothing to worry about. I saw the phone personally and I can tell you there was no water damage. They won't lie to you and go back on their word. Take the new phone, dude."

So I guess I'm in the clear? I don't know. Just sounds too good to be true I guess. You know?
