I am new to this site but have used this forum many times to resolve my blackberry problems. I have found a few threads that have talked about:
1.resetting your blackberry, taking the battery out
2. Going to your phone app and clearing your missed call log
3. Viewing your saved messages and clearing/erasing them out
4. marking the messages "all prior open"

I have tried all of the above with no success. This is why I have officially registered with the forum in plea of your help. It has been a week now and this stupid 1 unread message icon is still mocking me on my blackberry screen. Please help! It's a Blackberry Curve 8310, my carrier is AT&T.

Thank you in advance

Are you viewing the "Messages" folder or are you viewing the <youremail@yourdomain.com> folder? Make sure you have all the messages read in the Messages folder and all other folders.

...and for saved messages you're actually checking under the Saved Messages icon, right?

I have my sms/mms messages in one folder and I have my email messages in another folder. My sms/mms folder is fine but my email message folder reflects an icon that shows one message is not read.

Yes takeshi. I go to my email account, hit menu, view saved messages and then I see the actual messages I have saved, which is only 6 messages all opened. I still hit mark all prior opened just in case, but that didn't help either.

Look for a hidden folder that holds messages sent to your blackberry email address. (Mine is [email address].) There is probably a welcome message or something there.

If nothing works then you may need to wipe the device and reload the operating system. Also, if you haven't upgraded to the 4.5 operating system I would recommend doing that. I think it handles that "ghost message" issue better.

jeremykitching, thank you for your advice. I'm so afraid to wipe my phone but i may have to do just that. i have tried to back it up numerous times but haven't found a way to sucessfully confirm that the back up is backed up.

On the main screen, click the Menu button and choose Show All.

How are you backing it up? Desktop Manager should tell you the back up was created successfully. Also you may need to remember the location you back it up to. Usually it's in your My Documents folder by default. What version of Desktop Manager are you using?

daphne, I probably should learn how to back it up correctly. I am using the CD that came with the box. I'm not sure which version but the CD says 2006.

You'd be better off to download Desktop Manager from your carrier's site or from the BlackBerry site so you get the newest version.

https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...93E4F3BB068C22

Choose Desktop Manager 4.7, you can get it with or without Media Manager.

I have, on occasion, had success removing the stubborn unread messages icon by changing my theme and then changing it right back. Worked once, failed another time. Worth a shot before wiping though.
