newbie and having problem

Hi I just bought tow 8320's one for me and one for my wife. One of them I can syncornize the other when I use the USB laptop won't recognize it saying unknown device. Ihave tried many times reinstalling the desktop software. Is one of the blackberrys defective? I bought them on ebay unlocked and supposed to be new. Any ideas?

Does their appear to be any damage to the USB port at all?

It's odd that one would work but not the other, usually points to a hardware issue.

the port is not damaged and does charge but it is unlocked and maybe it was not unlocked properly? If I can't fix it will replace it as the other one works perfectly with the usb and I need to be able to update it once in awhile.

Unlocking has nothing to do with it.

Hmm. Do you have any other Roxio products in your PC?

Does the USB wiggle at all, if you mess with the connection a bit does it ever connection or no?

I have tried it on five different computers and get the same results some have desktop others not and some have Roxio others not. still not recognizing blackberry and giving the message that it is USB device not recognized has malfunctioned

whoa.
"USB device not recognized has malfunctioned"
does this only happen with the one device and not the other? if so, strange, but if had this message before on a usb wi-fi dongle which the computers has drivers for and recognises and heres the only way to fix it:
shut down the PC. unplug the power cable from the wall socket for about a minute, (holding down the on button while cable is out may also help), plug back in and boot up.

from what Ive read, the motherboard stores the electricity, and sometimes can block things like USB, unpluggin the power cable and holding the power button sorta "resets" it, i.e. drains the power and restores normal function.

I've seen that message a few other non-blackberry devices.. The problem stemmed down to the device. It must likely is your BB.

unplug any other USB devices maybe too much power is being drawn. But other then that nothing else you can do.
