I'll start from the beginning. My funds are limited but like anyone who's ever held and caressed a BB, the allure is devastating; so I purchased one. I purchased the 7520 from a friend who bought the phone but thought it was too "hi-tech". I switched the SIM card from my I830 to the BB. I did not call Nextel to register the BB because at this point I can't afford the extra 30.00 a month for email and other web services. So right now it just acts as a phone and PDA.

Today something happened. Two new icons magically appeared on the BB's desktop. A new "help" icon with an arrow and the NOL icon which I know stands for nextel online. Also yesterday, I received two messages. One directing me to activate the security features on the phone, the other telling me that my BB has NOW been registered with the wireless network. YIKES. I do not want my BB registered because I'm not ready to pay for those services. So I call nextel and they still have me as having the I830 and they say as of today "messenging services" have been added to my phone. Not sure how that happened because I never called to have that services or any service added. Before calling I noticed that I could access the new "help" icon and the screen came up rather quickly. After calling and cancelling the messenging services (which I never authorized) now when I access NOL it says I'm in a location that won't allow me to access the browser.

If Nextel still has me down as having an I830, why has my BB been registered? And has it ACTUALLY been registered? Did I solve the problem when I called to have the "messenging services" removed.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Be gentle...

Nextels network detects a BB immediately. They do not allow just phone service on BBs, you must also add the data plan, when it detects the BB without a data plan like you had, it automatically adds it for you. That is my understanding from what I have read here already. So it is my belief that unless you want to continuie paying for thpose services, youd better stop using the BB as a phone since as long as you have it on their network they will add the data plan to it, whether you request it, need it or not. If I am wrong about this I am sure someone will correct me in a bit.

First off, Im not sure how long you SIM card will work in the BB. From what I have been told by multiple people, it could burn up. Not totaaly for sure on that one though, so research that one better. Second, I don't think there is a way around having the BB registered. Eventually over time Nextel will find out and either bill you or block your BB, or something like that. Hence them adding the messeging services. Dawg, if I am not mistaken knows a little more about that from a previous topic that I can not find. You might be on a tight budget, but if youre going to use a BB, be prepare to shell out the $$ for the use. You could still use your I830 as the phone and just use the BB as a PDA worst case. Do a search in the search button and see what other topics you can find.

I appreciate all the advice. I think for the most part I'm gonna have to register this thing or get regular phone. Nextel has not charged me and still has me as having an I830. I'm sure I don't have much longer. Well, it was a pleasure riding the wave. Thanks again for all the insight!
