Default Lowercase GPRS while roaming?

Please Login to Remove!

While roaming in Europe recently, I was wondering why my BB barely buzzed one day. It turns out I had latched onto a network that only gave me lowercase gprs. I thought all one needed while roaming was a GPRS capable network? I ended up manually selecting one of the other nets which gave me GPRS, and left it on manual mode. Does this make snese?

Your carrier may have negotiated a voice-only roaming agreement. Voice and data roaming is negotiated separately.

I've run into the situation going into the U.S. with my Bell Mobility device. Verizon doesn't have a data roaming agreement with Bell, but they do have a voice agreement. So if my device can't find Sprint, I'm SOL for data...

I got the same scenario while I was in Canada and TMo rep told me to shutdown the BB, take the battery out for 15 secs and then restart the BB and it will clear any cache and will pick up the new communication channel and latest roaming.
well, it worked for me

This didn't work for me. I had to manually select the carrier that I could get capitals with and stay on them for the duration of my trip. They had pretty good coverage so it worked out well.

It probably worked out this way.

Carrier A: Has a great voice rate on roaming but data was too high.
Carrier B: Has an expensive voice rate but reasonable data.

Since about 99% of roaming usage is voice, you will roll into Carrier A first.
