Question OEM case with magnet and credit cards

Please Login to Remove!

I was at the grocery store today and I only took my credit card and the blackberry while shoppig, I had the CC on top of the blaclberry which was in the OEM case and was holding them both.
When I tried to pay the machine wouldn't read the card. I tried taking money from the cash machine and got the message "transaction can't be completed" Wells Fargo says the card is ok.
So I was wandering if the magnet in the OEM case is strong enough to demagnetise the credit card slip?

It absolutely IS! I have trashed more than 1 hotel card key the same way!

I am not certain it's the magnet actually... it may well be due to the close proximity to your device's EM field that's the culprit.

The rule of thumb for all devices (not just BlackBerrys) has always been "don't store your credit cards with your phone"...and since not all cases have magnets housed in them, my educated guess is that Co_BBTechie is correct-it is the phone, not the case.

As per Mythbusters, it is impossible to wipe a magnetic strip on a credit card with a magnet.
They havent to my knowledge tested that theory with mobile phones and their EM field however, so probably the phone.

Default BB and Credit cards

I have a skin on my Bold and I put credit cards and hotel keys inside the skin all the time and I have not run into those problems. The only problem I run into is that the skin ends up getting loose.
