Default HOW-TO: Correctly fill in your BlackBerryForums.com User Profile - 05-09-2009, 05:24 PM

Preface:
BlackBerryForums.com is an excellent place to get support for BlackBerry devices. In order to provide the best support to members, BlackBerryForums.com has a user profile feature that, when filled out, is visible under a user's screen name and avatar and allows other members to view that person's device and service provider information at a glance and provide the most accurate answer to any query. As such, it is vital that the profile is kept up-to-date and accurate. While the following is simply a suggestion, having accurate and up-to-date profiles will allow members to help each other that much more quickly.

In order to keep your profile up-to-date and accurate, please perform the following steps:

1......In the upper left-hand corner of the browser window, click the link labeled User CP
2......In the left-hand side of the screen, click Edit Profile
3......In the top section, there is a field labeled BlackBerry Model in which to enter the model of the device
a......It is highly encouraged to use the model number of the device rather than the name (e.g. 8900, 9000, 9530 vice Curve, Bold, Storm). The reason for this is that there are several different models of devices that have the same name, but have different capabilities. The most significant example of this is the Curve series. The Curve series of devices encompasses the 8300, 8310, 8320, 8330, 8900, and 8520 devices, and despite all being called the Curve, they are very different devices
b......The model number of the device can be found in the following locations:
i......Options > About on the device
ii......On the label under the battery
4......Next, under the section Are you on a BES? there are three radio buttons labeled Don’t Know, Yes, and No
a......Most likely, if the device was provided by one's company, the device is on a BES, and Yes should be selected
5......Finally, under Carrier enter the name of the company that provides the mobile telephone and data service to the device, and the two-letter abbreviation of the country in which that provider is located (e.g. at&t US, Rogers CA, Vodafone IN, T-Mobile UK, QTel QR, Etisilat AE, Zain KW)
a......Adding the country abbreviation is strongly suggested as many companies such as Vodafone and T-Mobile provide service in many different countries, and the services offered vary by country
b......If unsure of the name of the carrier, it can usually be found printed somewhere on the exterior of the device. If it is not, it can also be found at the top of the homescreen
c......If unsure of the correct country abbreviation, please visit the following link: Click Here
6......At the bottom of the page, enter the version number of BlackBerry OS that the device is running under the field labeled Operating System
a......The version number can be found by pressing ALT+CAP+H from the homescreen, which brings up the Help Me! screen. The version number is listed next to App Version
7......Click Save Changes

Please update your profile as soon as possible after purchasing and activating a new BlackBerry.

Thanks,
Dan (dc/dc)

Also at the bottom of that page, past several places for a lot of information a person may not want to enter and are OK to leave blank, is a place to enter your OS version. The OS version is very helpful to know with a lot of problems.

You're welcome. I didn't know about adding the county code to the carrier, so I have added that.

There is the 8350i, but the 8520 is the supposed model number for the Gemini.

I was only using the models I listed as an example, not an all-encompassing list.

very nice dc, this was well needed. especially when you need to put which country your carrier is from.

maybe this should be stickied?

Please don't think that I will add you to my BBM. I won't. Especially if I get sleazy PM's.
