Default I am thinking of buying a Blackberry

Please Login to Remove!

Hi, I am thinking of buying a Blackberry Bold. My problem is that I work mostly in Indonesia about 8 months a year and spend about 4 months in Australia or elsewhere. I use a Palm Treo 750 at the moment and just swap over the SIM cards depending where I am. I prefer to use an Indonesian number here because the people I work with are not likely to call an Australian number. If I used an Australian number up here, I think the cost of the calls on roaming would be terribly expensive. I am not sure what the costs would be to keep my Indonesian number and use that in Australia - indeed I am not sure if that is possible at all. The issue is the data services - can you subscribe to the data services using two phone numbers? Any solutions/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

uhm..
if your bold is unlocked you can simply swap sim cards, depending where you are.

secondly, i am pretty sure that if you are in indonesia you can get your data plan through your indonesian service provider and when you're in australia you can get your data plan through the Aus service provider. is that what you're asking?

Switching SIMs for voice is no problem as long as the device is unlocked as said above.

The problem however, is that you would need to cancel one BIS plan with carrier A before switching to carrier B's BIS. You cannot use the carrier supplied email address (not a recommended thing anyway) since it goes away when you cancel the BIS and it cannot be taken with you nor kept and read via webmail.

You would also need to make sure the carriers you chose support the BB and have BB data plans.
