Please forgive me if this has been covered in past posts, but I'm not finding the answer. What's the difference in the Orange and Blue designation for ATT customers?

This came up for me over the weekend when a friend and I were discussing all past carriers we had been through. I started with Sprint then BellSouth, Cingular now ATT.

Not 100% certain, but I think ATT Blue is the old ATT before Cingular and whomever. ATT Orange is the current ATT since they bought Cngular.

I think this is correct, except that Cingular actually bought the old ATT.

Yep, Cingular bought ATT wireless then ATT bought Cingular. I'm guessing that Orange is the old Cingular accounts and Blue are the new ATT accounts. When I was with BellSouth it changed to cingular on me, then ATT. My service plan until recently was one of the first Cingular offered plans. I hated to change it was a good price.

Blue refers to the old AT&T Wireless (before Cingular acquired them) accounts.

AT&T didn't buy Cingular. Cingular was a joint venture of SBC and Bell South. SBC acquired AT&T, took their name (in lowercase) and then also acquired Bell South. It was at that point that Cingular became wholly owned by at&t (and also rebranded as at&t mobility).

Thanks for clearing that up. I suspected that the Blue/Orange designations had to do with the accounts under each carrier prior to the brands coming together. But I was not certain.
