Alternatives to SMS?
 

I recently purchased a Blackberry Curve 8330 and since I'm paying for the data plan, I wanted to drop my messaging package to save money. I'm looking for software which would allow me to send free text messages to my contacts phone numbers but I haven't been able to find a practical program which would allow me to receive incoming messages.

I wanted to try emailing my contacts phone numbers (via the email contact command) but the blackberry does not support that so I've been looking for work arounds.

You should be able to use the SMS Gateway for the other people's phone carrier to send them SMS.

It will be an email on your side, but an SMS on their side. Sadly, it doesn't work in reverse though. They won't be able to send you messages without sending them to your actual email address in you are trying to avoid SMS charges.

Get Google Voice. You can send & receive from there as well as other features. They have a mobile web page.
