Hello,

A friend of mine is looking to get a blackberry so he can check his email & use his phone while on a cruise for a few months in the Caribbean (I am not sure of his itinerary).

Can anyone suggest a Blackberry device / carrier that would allow him to use it primarily in the Caribbean but also in the USA?

You need to know where it is going to be used.

Check the Cingular and T-Mobile web sites for the specific islands/countries your friend will be going to. The best bet would be a quad band GSM/GPRS device, like the 7100/7105/7290 devices (and the 8700 but that isn't quite out yet).

I have a T-Mobile 7290 and it works nicely in the Caribbean, but you have to check the coverage and roaming maps. I have not been on a cruise, so I don't know if it will work on the ship.
