Default Instantaneous Email

Please Login to Remove!

I recently purchased the BB Cure 8900 in order to receive work related emails. I have a situation where a vendor emails an order to several people at once and the first person to click the link to accept it will get the order. I've tried setting up gmail and my work email address on the BB and I'm still receiving these emails 5-15 minutes after they've been sent. Therefore, I have been unable to capture any orders. Does anyone know how to receive emails instantaneously? Or at least very quickly?

You are using BIS. You can look into a hosted BES solution if you need instant access to emails. You will incur and additional monthly fee.

Aside from a BES solution...

Switch to Yahoo as your mail provider. You'll get nearly real-time email push to your device.
(Gmail offers this too, but it's flaky.)

You could also set up your @carrier.blackberry.net email account on the device and have your other email addresses forward to it.
Sloppy, but will get the job done of having fast message delivery to handheld.
Also makes device susceptible to uncontrollable spam.

If an email provider supports the IMAP IDLE command your email can be pushed to your BlackBerry instantly, even over BIS. Traditionally this instant push has been a benefit of using the corporate BES data connection, which is what RIM had in mind when they invented these things we're so addicted to. Over the past year, however, more and more email providers have upgraded their servers to support IMAP IDLE. When Apple upgraded from .Mac to MobileMe they added IMAP IDLE capability. Although Apple intended it for the iPhone, it has the same effect for any email device: instant push email. So you need to find an email account that offers this feature.
