Default Battery Life, lock, case

Strictly from a conservation of battery power, does it matter if I lock the keyboard with the button on topside of 8830, or use the lock icon, or put the phone into the holster and have the magnet shut the screen off. In each case, will things like google Latitude continue to work? And how badly does latitude affect the battery?

Wirelessly posted (White and Nerdy)

Putting it in the case is standby mode. This is the same if you hold the top button down for a few seconds.

I am unsure of the latitude batttery however
