Default Why is Short Cut "C" behaving differently

Please Login to Remove!

When I press on "C" I am shown the Address Book to select a contact.
Depending on the selected contact my phone either:
a) chooses to Compose an SMS. (for my friend who has 3 emails)
b) chooses to make a phone call. (most of the contacts with no emails)
c) chooses to Compose an email. (most of the time)
Does anybody understand the criteria blackberry uses?
I have these settings:
Dial From Home Screen = No
BB Dimension L Theme = Active.

When you use the compose shortcut/icon, it will default to email (if there is an email address) or call (if there is no email address).
Once you have SMS'd a contact for example, it will remember that as the last thing you did to that contact, and will then always compose SMS for that contact.
If you happen to email that contact, it will default to email.
etc etc, so on and so forth.

The shortcut for "compose", as I understand it will default to the last action performed.
