Default New to BB and T-Mobile have confused me

Please Login to Remove!

Hi all, firstly thanks for providing these forums for people like me who search the web looking for help.

Secondly sorry if my question is a stupid one.

I have a BB curve 8900 in the UK using T-Mobile but at the minute am a little confused with my set-up

When the shop set up my phone I could access the internet from anywhere which was fine, I only used it for facebook updates and nothing else much, then my first months bill turned up and I was charged a stupid amount of money just for receiving facebook updates so I rang up support and they disabled Web and Walk.

This is where I'm confused about the service, if I'm on a wireless network at home would I not connect to the internet that way and it would not cost me anything and if I left my wireless network I would use T-Mobiles network.

Could somebody clarify this for me please as its driving me nuts.

Thanks

Martyn

Firstly, do you have a bb data plan? as standard its required if you buy online, but im unsure about in the shop.
If you don't thats why you were charged for facebook updates, despite having web n' walk.

yes, you should be able to connect to wi-fi, and have no cost, and yes if you leave it, it will use the mobile network.

Thanks for the reply, yes I'm sure I have a BB data plan as the store said I need this to enable me to send and receive my emails, cost me a fiver a month, does that sound about right?

Could T-mobile have disabled my internet access full stop, I can see that I'm connected to my wireless but I can not get to any webpages at all.

Again thanks for your reply

yes it does.
you need to have the browser set to hotspot to access only via wi-fi.

are you on a flext or combi plan with unlimited internet?
If so, you shouldn't have extra charges for facebook notifications.

Nice one, I will find out where to set my browser to wi-fi only
I opted out of the unlimited internet access because I though that Facebook would not cost that much to get updates, am on a Flext plan.

Thanks for your time and help. I will let you know how I get on

go to options - advanced - browser.
browser configuration and change default browser to hotspot.

No, unlimited internet access is cheaper. As the bb data plan only covers email on t-mob uk, web n walk covers all other data. This includes browsing but also any other data app. facebook, google maps, blackberry maps etc.
Id look into getting web n walk back as if you use any apps, they wont work.
