Do unlocked Blackberrys work with Blackberry Messenger? If not how do you get the data plan?

unlocked means the device can be used on any network (GSM that is)
bb messenger is an application that uses the bb data plan. the data plan is connected to your account and therefore your number i.e. your SIM card, not the phone.

Shouldn't matter either way. You definitely need a BB data plan though.
