Default 8830 WE Sprint vs Verizon FLASH MEMORY

Please Login to Remove!

Is there a difference in memory between Sprint's 8830 and Verizon's?
I have an 8830 WE from Sprint with base memory of 64 MB (Sucks ha?), OS 4.5.0.135. I have been working hard (resets, battery pulls, cleanup, deleted brickbreaker, messenger, and docs to go, etc..) to keep it at 15-16 MB free memory.
I saw an 8830 WE with a friend who has Verizon, when I checked his free memory it was like 45 MB (Similar to my wife's 8330). How could that be possible? I'm not sure what OS Verizon has but I was under the impression it's higher than Sprint (4.6 or so). Could the OS difference save that much memory??

I would love to have that much free memory on my 8830 (I like the Sprint service and I have been a customer for 10 years, this is my first Smartphone though)

The 8830 has 64MB of on board memory regardless of carrier.

You know, this is what I thought! But how could someone have 45 MB free in 8830? odd! ha?

I don't see the new OS being that small compared to the 4.5.0.135 to save 30 MB memory

It's tough to say. They could have went through JC's memory optimization thread and removed a lot of files/themes/apps such as voice activated dialing, etc. They may not have any 3rd party apps or themes installed. Are you sure you didn't read it incorrectly and they only have 4.5 MB?

Did you happen to compare things like the applications installed on both devices, as well as other space taken up by browser cache and photos/videos on the device memory?

Well, I didn't but I can tell you that I deleted a quite few things to get mine to stay at 15 or above. I can also tell you that this person did not seem to be computer/phone savvy and probably has everything as default. The only thing I can think of would be the OS version. Still, an upgrade in the OS (By Verizon) could not have had that much memory saving effect

LOL, I though of that (Misreading), I'm 99% sure I counted 6 numbers from the right before getting to the 45!!

I finally made peace with my 8830 coz I like the looks and feel compared to 8330. My BB is less than a moth old so I would still get 8330 for the memory purpose. A Tour would cost too much ($200 after mail-in) compared to $99 (Instant rebate). Also, the Tour seems to be so hot that it will take Sprint a while to reduce price or give instant rebate
