I really hate this its such a pain just to check my texts! Also I hate listening to my voice on the answering machine I would like it to be a automated voice that just says "this number is not here right now please leave a msg" rather then me having to say my name which i do not like!

| yes.
MESSAGES icon. press menu button. go to options.
general options. change "email and sms inboxes" to SEPERATE.
this creates a SMS icon.
although, for example with me, i just go to MESSAGES and there they are, mixed in with emails.....
secondly, if you call voicemail from your phone, it will give you options to change settings etc and may give you the ability to use a standard message. this i believe is carrier specific.

| Go in Options -> Screen and Keyboard and change Menu Style to Full Menu. That'll make it one less step. (It will eliminate having to select Full Menu.) | | Offline

I was told the bold was the best which is why i bought it cause i like to surf the internet with my BB
so i did the above thing to make a seperate sms icon but still i do not see any icon? Even tho it says they are seperate before it said they were themed whatever that meant? lol
ALso when i call my voice mail it does not seem to have the option that i want. What option is to have someone elses voice saying my phone number but not mine? whats it called? Anyone know? thanks | | Offline

| firstly, click menu button, then go to "show all" then see if you can find the SMS/MMS icon.
secondly, as i said before, its carrier specific.
as you havent put your carrier in your profile, I cant tell you whether or not they support it.
i believe its called a generic message or something similiar.
no you dont have a defective BB, its just new.

Menu>Options>Theme (select a different one then switch back). Go see if the icon appears. If it doesn't verify that your setting (As first stated) lists SEPERATE. If it doesn't change it to seperate and hit Menu>Save. If it is changed then try pulling the battery and reinserting it.
Good Luck!

| no the icon that says MESSAGES is your MESSAGES icon as I mentioned previously.
It collects ALL messages: email, sms, mms
and individual mailbox email icon look like a envelope with a globe on top of it, and when hightlighted will show the text youremail@domain.

| Firstly, to eliminate any further confusion, do the following:
Go onto the main menu and press the MENU button again - Select "show all" - this will show any icons which have been set to "hidden" for whatever reason. (you can make them shown again by highlighting them, pressing menu and then pressing 'show')
Then, its really not that hard!
Make sure you select the option to make the SMS/MMS box seperate from the rest of the messages, as people have explained above.
The SMS box looks different from the main messages because it will have a mobile phone and envelope in the icon, wheras the main messages will have only an envelope in the icon.
hope this helps,
Sunny

| Cateyes, if you have a friend with a BlackBerry, you need to ask them to sit down with you and show you these items, in person.
After reading this thread, I am almost certain there is user error involved, rather than a faulty device. Everything stated in this thread is correct, and would help you if you get the settings right.
Likewise, for the voicemail. Call your carrier, the voice heard on the voicemail is not a function of the BlackBerry. Check with your carrier. | | Offline

Under my greeting options when I call my voicemail, it gives me a choice for a standard greeting. If you have a greetings option it should be there even if by another name. Or you could have a friend record a generic greeting for you.

You really should have compared your needs/wants to the features of the Bold. Don't take someone's word unless you know that what they're looking for is exactly in line with what you're looking for. If one BB was "best" we would all be using it.

| yes thats correct, you can hide sent sms/mms but you would have to remember to delete them.
do you have an email address setup and receive email? if not, there wont be a email icon (envelope with globe)
If you have no icons hidden, then the show all menu doesnt appear, as there isnt any more to show.

| The email icon is not located under Menu.
It is located, should be, on your homescreen.
Of course, if you do not have THE BlackBerry Data Plan on your carrier, you won't get the email icon.
Could you please take the time to update your profile here (click on the User CP at the top left of this page) and update your information to what is correct? | | Offline
