Are you on BES?
If so:
Does it say 'messages system not configured. all you can do at the moment is save as a draft' ?(or similar)
I had that happen with someone yesterday. I called Vodafone. Guy told me to remove a service book, and then plug the device into the users computer. after that it worked.

If you are not on BES, then i dont know. sorry.
