Default Sprint BB phone-no plan

Please Login to Remove!

I am now eligible for a new phone with Sprint. I want the Curve 8330 but cannot afford the 30/month fee to use the BB plan. I have heard of some people canceling their plan after just one month. can you do that and use the BB as just a normal phone?! thank you

Wirelessly posted (Its All About the U!)

I am NOT sure if Sprint will allow it as I know vzw won't. Maybe you should get a different phone.

You probably need to ask that question on a general phone forum instead of a forum dedicated to the Blackberry.

wow...

I'd agree with TXLady... sure, some of us have used non-BlackBerry phones, but this is BlackBerryForums, so the majority of us are BlackBerry users/enthusiasts/evangelists.

Would you got into a Porsche dealership and ask them to recommend the best "non-Porsche" car?

Since you didn't like my previous answer, let me expand it.

Recommend you ask on the Sprint forum on HowardForums.com (aka HoFo) if you are planning to stay with Sprint. HowardForums: Your Mobile Phone Community & Resource - Sprint.HowardForums.com

If you are looking for a different carrier, you will need to narrow it down to what carriers have adequate coverage in your area, then check on the specific forum for that carrier. I frequent HoFo but I know that I get the best answers for my BB here. If I have a non-blackberry question, I look for the answers on HoFo. There are other forums out there but I generally stick to BB Forums and HoFo so that's what my response if based on. Each has their own niche and is very good at it. Other posters may suggest other forums to check out. But for non-BB questions, BB forums is not your best choice if you are really serious about getting an answer.

Seriously? I think you'll get much the same response from most of us here. At the very least, please post in the appropriate subforum here (Handheld or Off Topic).

I'd also recommend HoFo.

BlackBerrys work well as simple phones, but you have to guard closely against data charges if you opt to go without a data plan. You get charged by the kb for data in that case, and it gets expensive mighty quick.

On Sprint, I'm paying $60/month (after simple discounts) for 450 minutes, unlimited messaging, and unlimited data. That's BlackBerry BIS data too, not some generic data plan that is worthless on a BB.

When I was with AT&T I was paying almost $100 for the same thing.

Like TXLady says, choosing the carrier for coverage in your area is #1. Then find a mobile they offer that fits your individual usage patterns. For non-BlackBerrys, her suggestion of Howard Forums is an excellent one.
