I am new to this forum and Blackberry but have a connectivity problem. my company gave me a blackberry as it has wireless connectivity due my home location having no signal for orange (the provider).

Great i thought, this means that by going through the wireless router in my home i can still call and recieve calls on my blackberry, and this worked great for a while but now as soon as i get home the phone just gives me an SOS only signal and no coverage for calls at all.

That said the phone still connects to the internet no problem i just cant make or recieve any calls.

its wiersd that it did work for a while and now doesnt. i dont think i have changed anything on the settings.

can anyopne help me with this problem, i have a feeling it should be a simple fix but have no idea.

If there is no strong wireless signal in your home, you can try a wireless network extender. Unless Orange offers one, the aftermarket extenders available are monstrously expensive.

First thing is to try a battery pull on the BlackBerry. Also check in Options > Network to see that the radio is indeed turned on and you have it set for either Orange or Automatic Selection.

A local tower going out of service could be what took away your signal, seeing as how it worked before. Do you have another phone you can pop your SIM card into to check reception? That will tell you if the BlackBerry is defective or if your area is just without a cell signal.

Many thanks for your reply, with regards to your suggestion on the signal, i still get the intermittent signal in areas round my garden that i could get before i tried going wireless. basically i just have aweek signal at the house so going wireless was best option. The mobile network option the phone is set to mobile network preferred and orange, the thing is when im in the house it always changes to Vodafone, the network selection is automatic.

should i try backing up all my data and doing a master reset on the phone?

You can try a master reset/wipe/re-install, but from the sound of your problem it seems like a carrier signal strength issue. That won't get fixed by resetting. Maybe Orange lost a local tower. Since the Vodafone signal is stronger your BB is choosing that network, recognizing that Orange's signal is too weak or non-existent.
