I've just received a curve 8900 and it works well with my ISP e-mails. However I have a problem getting it to sync with outlook 2000. When I run desktop (not using BES/BPS) Outlook does not show up in the list (Only ASCII and Yahoo). In contacts outlook express shows up but I don't have it installed, or at least have uninstalled it in the dim and istant past

I have read the KB (sorry I cant remember the number) on BB site which details how to re-register the DLL to cure this problem but with no change.

Anyone come across this one?

Welcome to the forums.

You need Desktop Manager 4.2 to sync with Outlook 2000. They removed support for Outlook 2000 an all versions after 4.2.

Hi,

Ripped out the supplied version (4.7??), downloaded and installed 4.2.2 but the OS (win2k) now does not see the device (4.7 did). I tried installing the 4.7 drivers from the CD but that did not solve it. Downloaded & installed BB Device manager with no effect.

PLEASE don't tell me I have to "upgrade" to Vista, does BBDesktop interface with linux versions and Tunderbird?

BB Desktop Manager is currently WINDOWS only.
MAC support coming in a week or two according to rumours.

Completely delete your Desktop Manager. Reboot the PC. Download and install DM 4.2 SP2.

Do a battery pull on the BB.

Connect directly tot he PC, not via a HUB.

If you have Windows 2000 and Outlook 2000, then Desktop Manager 4.2 is the only one that supports that combination.

Report back please as to whether this worked or not.

One other option for email and contacts is to use Google Sync, syncing to Google contacts and calendar.

Worse case if the other suggestions don't work, you would just need to upgrade Outlook, not your entire OS.

And at this point you may as well wait for 7 in Oct. If you really had to upgrade.

Try Internet Update
Search for drivers...FAIL.

That might be the issue. Since Windows 2000 is no longer supported by MS, there are no drivers for it and the 8900.

OK I'm [expletive deleted] ! I need Win2k to run some of the programs I need to use but I can't use it with my BB.

So I need a new computer, but is there a way of getting my contacts off Outlook 2000 and into my BB as a one-time export/import?

Hey, I'd love to use BeOS with my BlackBerry, but it's over. Let it go man. Let it go.

Outlook 2000 has the capability to export as a CSV file. I think that DTM will import CSV. (Maybe gmail would as well?) May take a bit of tweaking and you may not get all fields but better than nothing.

I would also do a print out of my entire contacts list just to double check everything later.
