Lightbulb Setup, Profile Questions

Please Login to Remove!

Hi am a BB newbie and am hoping you guys could help me with my questions.

1. In the Call Logs, my number doesn't appear at the top. Instead, it's the number of my Mom (who gave her phone to me ). I tried to "wipe" already hoping all info would be deleted. How do I change this to my number?

2. Under Profiles, what's the difference between:
- Level1 Messages
- Messages
- Messenger - Alert
- Messenger - New Message
- SMS Text
I'm a bit confused in the Profiles

3. Still under Profiles, "Use Active Profiles Except for Important Calls"
- What does this mean?

4. Lastly, under Email Setup, there are only 2 options:
- I want to use work email... BES
- I want to skip email setup
How can I setup individual/personal email setup?

=====
Thanks everyone.

1. Go to OPTIONS / ADVANCED OPTIONS / SIM CARD / {menu} / EDIT SIM PHONE NUMBER

2. Message types:
Level 1 Messages are messages that YOU define as "level 1" in your BIS setup
Messages are email... and you will have one entry for each email address you set up on your phone
Messenger Alert is the sound that you hear when a BlackBerry Messenger contact "PING"s you
Messenger New Message is a NEW BlackBerry Messenger message
SMS Text is for SMS "text" messages
MMS is for MultiMedia messages

3. I don't know

4. I have a BIS account so I can't speak to the BES (BlackBerry Enterprise Service) - corporate access. I think you can do personal email with BES as well, so long as the IT Policy enforced by your BES allows it...

thanks for the very quick reply.
i wonder why the BIS is not in the list of options (only BES).

in the tutorials in the net, there appear to be 3 options in setting up: BIS, BES and skip. mine only has BES and skip.

Are you talking about on your phone or in the BlackBerry Desktop Manager?

Have you registered your phone with the network? Go to OPTIONS / ADVANCED OPTIONS / HOST ROUTING TABLE / {menu} / REGISTER NOW.

That will force your phone to register with your provider's network... see if that makes a difference in what you see in the Email setup...

3.This is for when you set a ringtone for certain callers. The ringtones you have set for those callers will be that ringtone. For instance each of my 3 sisters has a ringtone just for them so I know which sister is calling before I get near the phone. Those are listed in "active except important calls" this feature works with downloaded rings and rings pre-loaded on the phone. Make sense?

Do you have a Blackberry data plan?
You can setup your email for BIS on your carrier's (and country i.e. if you are on orange france, you cant setup on orange UK) BIS page.

i have an additional question. the names of some of the contacts saved in my directory don't appear when send me an SMS. only their cellphone numbers appear, which makes it difficult for me to determine who sent the message.

i found in blackberryfaq that i need to omit the "+" sign in my contact's numbers, but some of the messages whose names have appeared actually have the + sign, so i'm a bit confused.

i've also edited my area code in the "advanced options" placing my correct country code, area code, etc.

hope you guys can help me out, just a newbie and still exploring my 8830.

thanks so much!
