Lightbulb uber BB noob here with questions

Please Login to Remove!

i am just looking for some do's and donts for my new toy, and i hope i am posting this in the right area, so excuse me mods if i am screwing up with my first post here.

so here is my setup, an 8330 (curve), on the sprint network, and i live in the US (floriduh)

first, the lols.... this is my first smartphone, apparently when i purchased the phone from the local radio shack, and they transferred my service from an old sanyo 8440 they either couldnt or didnt provision my phone for data (i did purchase the upped plan for this BB, btw). and after going to a sprint store, they stated it was a problem on the BB network that was causing the interwebless problems on my new toy. so i have been patiently waiting for a day for a call from india so someone can help me finish my phone setup, so i can explore all that this thing has to offer.

so my questions are: which apps are the ones to get for this thing and which ones should i avoid when i finally get this thing online. i am looking for a mapquest style program, weather program, movie theater times program, and anything else that you guys say are the killer app for this thing. i plan to use a mapquest feature alot for this, and myspace (can i play ,mafia wars from this thing). and do i need a separate driver to view youtube vids? blackberry.com looked to have alot of killer free apps such as pandora and maps and a bunch of stuff that looked like useless crap, so any help sorting through what is killer and what is useless would be much appreciated.

i currently have a 2gig microsd plugged into my phone, with a bunch of itunes stored on it from my old phone, and i am kinda curious if i should upgrade the size, but i dont plan to do alot of video recording with this thing, so i am not sure if getting the new 8gig (omg) micro sd would be a necessity at this point.

also, the software that came with this 8330 seems to run pretty slow, i am not sure if this is the software or my pc.

any help would be great, i am a pretty technical guy, and just about figure anything out, as i am an electronics tech by trade, but my pc knowledge is mediocre at best.

a preemptive thanks to any who can help

I would start in the Aftermarket software section and also use the SEARCH function.

Only you can really make the kind of decisions as you are the only one who knows exactly what you are looking for.

For a map app, look at the yellow sticky at the top of the GPS & Mapping section. There is a review of most of the map applications for the BB. IMHO, Google Maps might be what you are looking for, however I don't know what your requirements are for that app.

i know that sprint has some kind of free service for maps, but not sure how it rates versus the competition.

is the software on blackberry.com any good (i am kinda scared of downloading the wrong thing and turning it into a brickberry)

+1 for Google maps. I like it a lot more than BB maps. Best way to find out though is to download it yourself and give it a twirl. The app is free from Google, and I doubt you can brick your device when you install the apps. It's pretty fool proof. If it doesn't install, just try it again.

Check here for apps as well, alot of them have been reviewed so you can kinda research for yourself what you might want.

and do i need a separate driver to view youtube vids
Cannot play youtube from the main site on your phone, you will have to go to the mobile site, you can access the mobile site from youtube.com

I really like Opera Mini as a browser. The only downside is that it can't download and install programs like the BB browser can.
