Using Skype or Yahoo Messanger for voice chat

Does anyone know how to make BB bold able to use for voice chat for skype and yahoo messanger? Will unlocking the AT&T phone allow you to use for voice chat? I know Iscooter can make skype work but it does take your anytime minutes. I want it to just use the internet or the data plan. Any advice from anyone who has done it?

thanks in advance.....

No VoIP option for the BB at this time. Not sure if there will be.

TMO is the only one that has UMA right now, AFAIK.

What is TMO UFA & AFAIK?

TMO - t-mobile
UMA - allows calls over wi-fi
AFAIK = As far as I know

That Skype app went into closed beta and there's been no further news since then. Could be technical problems or could be business reasons. Skype is still part of Ebay and they may not want to annoy the wireless carriers.

Legal battle puts Skype's future in jeopardy, owner says - CNN.com

This may be a bit concerning...

Found this blog posting that clarfies that the other party Joltid is owned by the guy who sold Skype to Ebay and he retained the rights to his peer to peer technology. Kinda stupid for Ebay to have let him keep those rights.

Skype in Legal Fight with Joltid over P2P technology

Something else... Can you receive pop3 mail to your BB through wifi ?

NJBlackBerry 08-28-2009 04:39 AM

eBay's intention was to somehow included P2P voice (Skype) into the average person's eBay transaction. Speak (and see) the seller. They never figured out what to do with it. They vastly overpaid, and can't monetize it....
