Just got my first 8900 a few days ago and love it, but there are two pet-peeves that I'm wondering can be fixed.
First off, I find it annoying how many different ways I'm notified about the same thing. For instance, if I get an email or facebook update, it's in my messages folder, my SMS folder (which is pointless because that should strictly be for texts" and then I'm notified in the actual email/facebook application. Is there a way to set it so that my texts go ONLY to the SMS folder and my emails go ONLY to the email folder? In options I see the "SMS & Email inboxes) option is set to "separate" but it obviously doesn't do what I think it does.
Also, how do I condense all my text conversations into a single message? Like how all my BBM contacts are sorted by name and our chat history along with it. In texts, especially what is annoying, is that in order to reply to someone, or resend a text, I need to find their name with the open message symbol next to it and click reply - you can't re-reply if their name has the check symbol.
So basically I want to know if it's possible to set up the SMS layout the same way BBM is set up.

Oh, and what is the most current firmware for the 8900? I have T-mobile and their most recent is 4.6.1.231 but I know they're behind on updates most of the time.

The messages folder will automatically keep a copy of everything unless you change to SMS and Email Inboxes - Separately. (Other options are combined or theme controlled.) Note that if you have multiple email accounts, all emails will show in the messages folder. I keep the messages folder and rely on the separate email folders for each account but somepeople like the combined folder. (This is how my personal BB on BIS works.)

I believe if you are on BES, you only have the Messages folder for your BES email. My work phone doesn't allow personal email accounts to be added but I think if you are able to add your personal emails, they also go to the Messages folder as well in this case and that there is no way to keep them out or to set up a separate folder containing only the BES email. I think you still have the option to separate the email and sms messages though.

The most recent OS (firmware) for the 8900 should be the one listed in the sticky at the top of this forum. There may be beta versions available elsewhere, but on BB forums, the versions listed are the latest one released by a carrier and you should be able to use it on you BB, regardless of who your carrier is, by following the instructions in the first post of the sticky.

Something's definitely wrong with your 8900. If set to Separate, SMS should only appear under the SMS icon. Additionally, the Facebook app should be handling incoming Facebook notifications so they don't appear in Messages. However, I've noticed that friend suggestions from other users do appear as email on mine.
