PIN is a Personal Identification Number.

Every device has a unique one. You need it to send PIN messages to other BlackBerry users or to use BlackBerry Messenger.
The difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits.
When you take things for granted, the things you are granted, get taken.

Too many people miss the silver lining because they're expecting gold.

It specifically identifies your device and allows RIM to send PIN messages and email to your device only.

Sometimes also refers to a PIN message (I.e. "Send me a PIN").
