That's what I thought, and as I heard the sounds, I was unable to look at my device, and thought it was an appt reminder. It turned out to be two new emails, and the times of receipt listed for each was well within the period after which I had turned all off.
However, (per my poor memory) it's possible that I didn't turn "all" connections off, and instead only disabled the check box next to "mobile network". But that shouldn't make a difference. I don't know what happened as I've since tried both options and sent myself emails, which did not come through.
am perplexed; I probably messed up some how. Again, though there was an X through the battery signal and my device on the main screen said "no service".
