Default Older Handsets? How often do you upgrade?

At what point do you think older handsets become properly obsolete?
I am thinking I might start producing Themes for the older 83xx devices.
Is this worthwhile? Sooner or later surely everyone upgrades, but what's the life of your average blackberry...?

There should be a good number of 83xx's still out there. Try checking out the activity level in the 83xx subforum.

If you look at some forums you would think some people would explode if they don't have the latest device the day it ships, but certainly when a company is supplying somebody with a blackberry they are going to make sure they last e.g. even in the last year I have still seen people on flights using an 8700-series device.

As far as 83xx themes, wouldn't their lifespan be effectively increased by the 8520 also having the same resolution screen and thus any artwork produced wouldn't go to waste.
