According to the user guide, in order to use the synchronization software you must have an active internet connection on your pc. It needs to check in with RIM and verify some things about your device.

First off we don't want to do that to RIM.

DM does that as part of their security infastructure. Anytime you plug in your BB, DM checks the device with your carrier and RIM servers to make sure it is what it is supposed to be. This, I'm almost sure is done to prevent someone from hacking into the phone or network.

I personally like that security and believe that most of the "WE" like it as well.

Short answer, you will have to find a good friend with an internet connection who will allow you to install DM on their comp so you can can sync your phone.

RIM does not want this but has no choice. They are paying royalty fee based on how many people uses DM to sync using third party sync tool. All the process does is it records your pin number.
There used to be work around by changing registry key in earlier versions of DM (prior to 5.0) but was changed in 5.0 and can't work as it used to before that.
Workaround use older version of DM 4.7 and older and change registry key.

I can live with 4.7 ^_^

Anybody know how to do it??

Intersting this though.... So your telling me that they pay a fee depending on the amount of syncs!? Basically to microsoft right?
Clever though. Although I wouldn't have thought it necessary since it already pushes BB consumers towards outlook.
