Default Desktop Manager 5.0

Please Login to Remove!

I was on the offical BB pages and found that Desktop Manager 5.0 is out here ..It said to check with my carrier (was alltel now is Verizon didnt want to change) before installing. I have looked around and found nothing from alltel or verizon.

So 2 quick questions Can I install 5.0 with media editor from the RIM pages ..and is it worth the 324MB download

Thanks in advance

Paul

Some folks, especially Vista users, have had issues with DM 5.0, and the Roxy media manager only seems to make it worse. I'd stick to the DM 4.7 version for now.

That's interesting, why would the carrier be affected by the version of Desktop Manager? I know it may check for OS updates, but other than that and maybe having to deal with users who call tech support, what would interface with the carrier?

Edit: I downloaded and didn't see any indication to check with my carrier.

I am on Verizon and using Windows Vista and have had no problems as of yet with DM 5.0 been on it for a few weeks now.

Cool. It has encryption of backup files - which has always been a huge glaring security risk.

Also, I had a browser database error on backup but instead of stopping, it just skipped that database and completed the backup.

Windows XP SP3, handheld 8830 WE from Bell Mobility (software v4.5.0.127), DM v5.0.0.11 installed w/o Roxio and w/o MediaSync.

Works just fine, at least Backup, moving files to microSD card in mass storage mode and installing third party apps on BB.

During DM installation I encountered Error 1904, which means that you need to manually register 4 DLLs. This problem may happen on some computers also with other versions of DM and has been discussed elsewhere.

I have Sprint. I've used the 5.0 for a little while and haven't had any problems at all. It is always better to be safe than sorry. So take your own risk. I personally say that it should and has worked for me.
