i have just acquired a new BlackBerry 8520 mobile phone, been out the box less than 2 hours and am wondering how to access WAP browsing

I have set up a WiFi connection no problem, but can't seem to find the options for setting up the Browser for a WAP connection on the move

do i have to register the BlackBerry in order to be able to get the WAP connection settings?

WAP connections are a function of your wireless provider, they are perhaps the best to check with for WAP configuration.

The best way to surf the Internet with a Blackberry is to get a Blackberry data plan and use the Blackberry Internet Service (BIS). Then you needn't worry about WAP, APNs and the like.

the service provider i have is Orange, i get free browser access to Facebook with the plan i have, but i need a WAP connection to be able to be able to take advantage of this.

problem is that every time i try to access the browser function on the Blackberry i get a message that says that it is a WIFi function, and don't know how to change the type of connection


i don't want to be paying any extra for the same service when i got it free with my previous phone, if that what BIS entails

Here is what you do.
And you MUST do this everytime you want to swap between using WI-FI to browse and using WAP to browse.

options - advanced - browser
change the top option to WAP browser (or equivilent. i.e. it may say Orange something)
It wont be hotspot and id be surprised if its there, but it wont be blackberry browser/internet browser

Then SAVE

Then everytime you open the browser it will be WAP.

Then when you want to surf on wi-fi you must do the above and change the option to HOTSPOT and save.
