First, check what provider it is for and what model it is. That severely limits your choices, unless you pay to get it unlocked.

Put it on Ebay, get all you can for it, then go to Cingular and buy an 8700c for $349 and a $50 rebate and a free $70 Bluetooth headset.

Thanks for the helpful hint, seattle.

As gabe said, check the model and provider. Also read the Sticky Threads (a few others should read them too) about the different alternatives for getting mail onto your BB.

Good luck!

I was being serious, not snotty, if I came across that way. I feelt hat the 8700c is a fantastic device, and I am a recent PPC/Treo convert. To me this would be an opporunity to get a brand new device at what I consider to be a great price. Just my $.02

Depends on the model he has, the area he's in and such. He could be in a area that only Verizon has good service in, which the 8700 isnt available. Find out his options before pushing yours

Which BlackBerry model is it?

You can find out the model by removing the battery and looking for a number such as 58XX, 62XX, 67XX, 71XX, 72XX, 77XX ... and sometimes the amount of memory (i.e. "6710 - 16MB")
